A serial entrepreneur, Marks is driven by creativity across every stage of her process, from research and concept development to design and craftsmanship. By approaching the creative journey both personally and objectively, she constructs a dynamic dialogue between product design and the visceral impact of film, photography, and live experiences.
Her distinctive, artisanal approach has attracted the attention and loyalty of editors, photographers, stylists, fashion patrons, musicians, and artists alike. Known for her fiercely independent perspective, Marks challenges mainstream fashion sensibilities while remaining accessible, a balance that defines and distinguishes her ventures.
Her material methodology incorporates leather, acrylic, and fabric, brought to life through the visual expression of photography, film, and exhibition. Guided by an intuitive design philosophy, her work fuses innovative materials with traditional craftsmanship, resulting in a sleek, modern aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from film and literature, her fashion accoutrements blur boundaries, merging disciplines into unexpected yet timeless forms.
Originally from Calgary, Canada, Kat Marks holds a Bachelor of Design in Fashion Design from Toronto’s Ryerson University and a Master of Arts in Fashion Artefact from the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London.
ABOUT LETHRBAR
Lethrbar by leather designer Kat Marks began in 2013 as an experiential service that offers fresh, modern leather goods for everyday use and special occasion. A defining characteristic of the concept is that our leather artefacts are individually treated throughout the entire process, from the construction to the dying, all within our own studio walls. Every leather good is created in the old-fashioned, time-honoured way of leather craftsmanship and is freshened up with our use of modern technology and our signature approach to innovative design detailing.
